Rarest Life Path number: every birthday counted
We ran every date from 1950 to 2025 through the calculator. Life Path 33 is the rarest by a wide margin, and the answer changes with the method.

Ask which Life Path number is the rarest and you will get at least two confident answers. Some places say 22. Some say 33. Almost nobody shows how they counted.
So we counted. Soulmath ran every calendar date from 1950 to 2025 through the same calculation the calculator uses: 27,759 dates, each one reduced the way your own birthday would be. Under that method the rarest Life Path number is 33. It turns up on 209 of those dates, which is 0.75%.
That is a statement about arithmetic. It says nothing about what kind of friend a 33 is, and it changes if you change the method. Both of those matter more than the headline.
What is the rarest Life Path number?
Life Path 33, then 22, then 2. The three master numbers together account for 10.28% of dates. At the other end, 1, 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9 sit within a fraction of a percent of each other.

Two things stand out. The master numbers are rare, which you might expect. And 2, 4 and 6 are rarer than the other single digits, which you might not.
Why is 33 so rare?
Soulmath reduces the month, the day and the year separately, adds the three results, then reduces that total. Master numbers are kept wherever they appear. Our calculation guide goes through it line by line.
Life Path 33 only appears when the three reduced parts add up to exactly 33. There is no second route. Three ordinary single digits cannot get that high, so at least one part has to be a master number already: November, the 11th, the 22nd, the 29th, or a year that reduces to 11 or 22. Then the other two parts have to land on precisely the right remainder.
Life Path 22 has the same problem with a lower bar. The total has to be exactly 22. Life Path 11 is more common because several totals lead to it: 11, 29, 38 or 47.
Why are 2, 4 and 6 rarer than the other single digits?
Every master number sits on top of a single digit: 11 over 2, 22 over 4, 33 over 6. A calculator that reduces everything would turn those dates into a 2, a 4 or a 6. Because this calculation stops at the master number, the digit underneath never receives them.
That is why 2 is the rarest single digit at 4.82%, while 11 takes 6.31%. The dates did not disappear. They were counted one step earlier.
Does the answer depend on when you were born?
Yes. The year is one of the three parts, so the odds are not the same for every generation.

Read down the last column. Life Path 33 is several times rarer for birthdays after 2000 than for birthdays before it. Those years reduce to small numbers, which leaves the month and the day to make up the difference, and very few combinations can.
Why do other sources give a different answer?
None of this is a fact about numerology in general. It is a fact about one procedure.
Add every digit of the date in one pass instead, still keeping master numbers, and the result differs from Soulmath's on 11.98% of these dates. Use a calculator that always reduces to a single digit and it differs on 10.28%, which is every date where Soulmath returns a master number. Under that last method there are no master numbers at all, so the question of which one is rarest does not come up.
When two sources disagree about the rarest number, they may both be counting correctly. Ask which method, which dates, and whether master numbers are kept at every step or only at the end.
Dates are not people
This count gives every calendar date one vote. Real birthdays are not spread perfectly evenly across the year, so the share of people with each Life Path will differ a little from the share of dates. The gaps at the rare end of the table are far wider than any seasonal difference, so 33, 22 and 2 would stay where they are. Treat the percentages as a count of dates, because that is what they are.
What does a rare number tell you about a friend?
Nothing about their worth. A rare result is not a better one, and the word “master” is a traditional label, not a rank.
If a friend gets a 33 and you get a 5, the arithmetic has told you how two dates reduce. It has not told you which of you is the more interesting person to know.
